I studied electrical engineering as an undergraduate, spent a few years in industry, and then completed my doctorate studies in the Computation in Neural Systems at Caltech. My group works on hardware-algorithmic co-design of bio-inspired hardware systems covering neuromorphic systems and deep networks, in particular we focus on bringing brain-inspired computational principles to sensory and processing architectures. We design architectures for example, our silicon cochleas and retinas, on VLSI mixed-signal chips and embedded systems using FPGAs. We also work on deep network architectures for real-time audio and visual applications and theoretical concepts of asynchronous signal processing.
