Java/Matlab software development (student assistant)
We are looking for a bachelor/masters student to work part time to support the development of a general-purpose software for the browsing and analysis of large-scale, high-dimensional data (see
https://github.com/skollmor/dspace for an earlier version). We develop and employ this software at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, a joint institute of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich (
https://www.ini.uzh.ch/en.html).
Your initial tasks would center on developing custom GUI components in Java to be embedded in MATLAB. Subsequent tasks will include work on the back end of the software, like the implementation of novel analysis and visualization components.
The successful applicant has a proven experience in software development, ideally having worked on a larger-scale project, is proficient in Java, including a good understanding of the Swing framework, and has worked with MATLAB. Familiarity with Web-application development and Python is a plus.
Place of work:
The majority of the work can be conducted remotely. However, occasional meetings at the Institute of Neuroinformatics may be necessary (University of Zurich, Irchel Campus, Winterthurerstrasse 190, 8057 Zurich).
Terms of appointment:
The successful applicant will be hired and paid on an hourly basis following the regulation for “Hilfsassistenz” (student assistant) at the University of Zurich. We envision an initial appointment of 4-6 months, which could be extended conditional on the successful completion of the initial tasks.
Application:
Send your application (and possible questions) by email to skollmor (at) ini.ethz.ch. Please include a CV and brief cover letter with your application.
Starting date: immediately
