Research Assistant (33% Full-Time) – Natural Language & Neural Data Processing

About the Position

The Neural Dynamics Lab at the Institute of Neuroinformatics invites applications for a part-time Research Assistant (33% of full time). The lab’s research focuses on the analysis of naturalistic human communication and its neural correlates.

The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research by developing robust natural language processing (NLP) pipelines for conversational data and managing complex intracranial EEG (iEEG) datasets.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • - NLP Pipeline Development: use and optimize natural language processing workflows for large-scale natural conversation recordings.

  • - Neural Data Management: oversee the curation and quality control of diverse neural datasets.

  • - Signal Processing: process intracranial EEG (iEEG) data, including spike sorting to isolate single-neuron activity.

  • - Collaboration: work closely with lab members to integrate linguistic features with neural dynamics, contributing to publications.

Requirements

  • - Education: currently enrolled in a Master’s program (preferably at ETH Zurich) or holding a completed Master’s degree in Computer Science, Neuroscience, Data Science, or a related field.

  • - Technical Skills:

    • - - Strong proficiency in Python programming.

    • - - Solid experience with Linux environments and command-line tools.

    • - - Demonstrated background in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and general Data Science.

  • - Preferred Qualifications:

    • - - Prior experience in neuroscience, specifically with electrophysiological data (EEG/iEEG) or spike sorting techniques.

    • - - Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and NLP libraries (e.g., Hugging Face, spaCy).
