A comparison of intra-areal neuron connection patterns in mouse A1, V1 and M1

The primary auditory cortex (A1), the primary visual cortex (V1) and the motor cortex (M1) play distinct roles in the cascade of information processing that ultimately leads to behavior. While their cortical circuitry is unknown, their marked cytoarchitectonic differences suggest differences in their connectivity matrices. This project investigates these differences by quantifying and comparing the number of neurons and synapses in these three cortical regions. Such measurements are the backbone of any quantitative neural circuit diagram which can lead to a better understanding of the functions of cortical lamina.
