I graduated from the University of Latvia with a BSc in Biology in 2013. During my bachelor studies I specialized in Physiology and investigated dynamics of the human cardiovascular system. Research on heart rate variability, fluctuations of the blood pressure and vasomotion made me appreciate the complexity of the intertwined processes taking place in the human body. However, if you asked what excites me the most I will tell you in a heartbeat that it is the human mind! The Institute of Neuroinformatics was the logical choice where to go to satisfy my hunger for the understanding of the dynamics of complex systems and to unravel the mysteries of the brain.

I obtained my MSc degree in Neural Systems and Compution from University of Zurich and ETH Zurich in 2015. I started my PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Ruedi Stoop in Fall 2015. In my PhD studies I use the insights from nonlinear physics to better understand the consequences of network interactions in biological systems, such as our hearing sensor, cochlea, and biological neural networks.

Previously, I have also briefly worked on neuroplasticity in the Neuroscience Center at the University of Helsinki in 2012 and done genetic analysis of RNA bacteriophages at the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center in 2011. In my free time I enjoy exploring nature, playing music and creating videos.
