Do we actually see the world as it is or are we only interpreting a filtered or biased version of visual input reaching our brain?

I studied biology at the ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule) Zürich, specializing in neuroscience. Since I find the brain fascinating from the psychological to the molecular level, I decided to have a closer look into the function and connectivity of single neurons. Now I am a PhD student in Prof. Kevan Martin's group. In my project, I focus on how incoming visual signals in the primary visual cortex are modulated by the feedback loop from the deep layers.

Besides gazing through the lens of a microscope, I also like enjoying the view on top of a mountain.
