I am a lab technician working in Prof. Hahnloser’s research group. My interest is to contribute to understanding of the structure and function of neural circuits that allow birds to learn and produce their songs. My role is to provide histology support. I work on projects aimed at determining at synaptic resolution the structure of functionally identified circuits, which are presently largely unknown. For these investigations I exploit various new morphological and immunohistochemical markers and use light and electron microscopy to identify different types of neurons in the various nuclei that form the song circuits. I assist in tracing local and long-distance synaptic connections of the song nuclei with various tracers and use cutting-edge reconstruction methods to determine the 3-D organisation of the circuits. I have 10 years of experience preparing histological samples of insects, fish, and chicken embryo for electron microscopy.
