On 1 May 2025, the Institute of Neuroinformatics proudly welcomed Prof. Katharina Wilmes, who joins us as an SNSF Starting Grant awardee for a five-year project titled “Neural mechanisms of perception and learning in uncertainty.” with a budget of ~1.79M CHF.

Her research will develop computational models to show how the brain integrates predictions and sensory inputs under uncertainty, elucidate the roles of recurrent cortical circuits and hierarchical processing, and link cellular-level alterations in prediction‐error signalling to behavioral differences seen in conditions such as autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia. Prof. Wilmes’ work promises new insights into both fundamental learning mechanisms and their disruption in neuropsychiatric disorders.
